Philadelphia, Pa – January 30, 2025 – Whole Food workers in Philadelphia made history this week by becoming the Amazon-owned chain’s first union store after voting to union UFCW 1776.
The employees at Whole Foods’ flagship store in Philadelphia have courageously joined UFCW Local 1776, seeking fair wages, improved benefits, and a safer, more supportive workplace; they are fighting not only for their rights —it’s a fight for the future of all grocery workers, customers, and communities who rely on stores like Whole Foods.
Whole Foods workers are the backbone of our community, ensuring we have access to fresh, healthy food every day. Yet, many of these employees are struggling with understaffing, unrealistic productivity demands, stagnant wages, and diminishing benefits, while Amazon actively discourages workers from exercising their rights.
“We just WON our union election in Philadelphia, and we’re talking with more and more of our coworkers to build a true movement at Whole Foods,” says the workers at Philly Whole Foods. “We’re starting a new chapter at the company, standing up for everything we need to thrive, and turning Whole Foods into the company we know it can be!”
