Halifax – July 29, 2024 – This July UFCW OUTreach joined UFCW Canada leadership and UFCW members of the Eastern Provinces Council in celebrating the Halifax Pride parade on Saturday, June 20.
While in Halifax, UFCW OUTreach held their biannual Executive Board meeting and discussed upcoming programming in union education, new allyship initiatives and political responses to the rising tide of 2SLGBTQ+ hate. Board members facilitated OUTreach’s signature training developed for local unions and received a presentation from Fae Johnstone of Momentum Canada and Wisdom2Action, two organizations UFCW Canada is proud to support.
Hosting UFCW OUTreach in Halifax was an opportunity to profile the important work UFCW OUTreach undertakes across the US and Canada with UFCW members working hard to strengthen workplace inclusion in Eastern Canada.
“Union solidarity and worker power is strengthened when we come together in person to learn, to celebrate and to network within our union. It translates to activism in action,” said Shawn Haggerty, National President of UFCW Canada. “UFCW OUTreach remains a critical resource for any local looking to strengthen 2SLGBTQ+ rights through the collective bargaining process and in coordinating responses to 2SLGBTQ+ hate.”
