Toronto – The 67th session of United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) took place in New York City on March 6 – 17, 2023.
UFCW Canada was represented by UFCW 175 Secretary-Treasurer, Kelly Tosato, UFCW 832 Secretary-Treasurer, Marie Buchan, and Chair of the UFCW Canada National Council, Women & Gender Equity Committee, Debora De Angelis.
Sister Buchan presented on a panel that featured Canadian unions and shared her experiences dealing with issues surrounding automationand its impact on women in the workplace.
CSW67 was focused on how innovation, technological change and education can be a driving force in achieving gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls in the digital age.
UFCW Canada activists participated alongside hundreds of trade unionists from across the world in observing International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 and shared their voice in the call to power on efforts to make the digital world safe, inclusive andequitable.
Activists also made the call to increase training and development initiatives that promotes women in leadership, creates awareness of the social and economic inequality affecting women, builds strategies to end gender-based violence, increases access to reproductive and health services, including mental health, and increases lobbying efforts to affect systemic change.
