Toronto – UFCW Canada has earned special recognition from the United Way Centraide as a 2022 Thanks a Million recipient and as one of the nation’s leading labour organizations have raised more than $1 million to support UWC’s work in communities across the country.
“Through UFCW Canada’s collective action and generosity, we are able to make investments in local programs and community agencies that create lasting change by addressing the root causes of social issues, like housing and homeless crisis; increasing access to mental health and substance abuse supports; and supporting equitable economic recovery,” says United Way Centraide Canada President & CEO, Dan Clement.
The recognition comes at a time when basic affordability becomes a growing issue in households across the country, and when the global health crisis has brought to the forefront long-standing social and economic inequities in our communities.
“UFCW Canada and the United Way share a common principle: by supporting each other, we build stronger, more resilient communities,” says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “In assisting the efforts of the United Way Centraide, we empower communities to reach their full potential, and that is a victory for our members and the neighbourhoods they call home.”
United Way is instrumental in helping communities across Canada address mental health, isolation, poverty, hunger, and domestic violence issues.
