Charlottetown, P.E.I. – UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council (EPC) activists showed solidarity with striking University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) faculty as they fight for better working and learning conditions.
Strike action commenced on the morning of March 20 after UPEI faulty and administration were unable to agree on the terms of a new collective agreement since the latest contract expired in April 2022, with little progress made in over 20 bargaining sessions.
UPEI faculty are demanding an improved learning environment for students through increased full-time positions, strengthened health and safety language, workload accommodations and other pressing concerns.
UFCW Canada EPC stands in full solidarity with striking faculty and the broader labour movement across P.E.I as it galvanizes support for an improved post-secondary education system across the Atlantic region.
UFCW Canada EPC proudly serves thousands of union members working in various sectors across Atlantic Canada. To learn about the UFCW EPC and its outstanding work, visit the council’s website.
