Heritage Inn lockout approaches 500 days

Saskatoon, Sask. – January 13, 2025 – The lockout at the Heritage Inn Hotel in both Saskatoon, and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan is rapidly approaching a staggering 500 days of lockout, a grim milestone in the ongoing battle for fairness for UFCW 1400 members working at the two hotels.

Prior to the lockout, UFCW Local 1400 had been attempting to bargain for months to arrive a new collective agreement. However, instead of engaging in good-faith bargaining, the hotel owners chose to take a hostile stance against their employees.

Without offering a reasonable proposal or showing any willingness to negotiate, the owners demanded that workers accept a contract that stripped away earned benefits like vision and dental coverage.

Rather than engage with their employees at the bargaining table, Heritage Inn Hotels opted to lock out their staff.

Tragically, last year, the situation at the Saskatoon hotel took a devastating turn when a worker lost their life in a preventable workplace incident.

Heritage Inn staff have been among the most dedicated hospitality workers in Saskatchewan. They showed up for their communities throughout the pandemic, providing a safe place for individuals to isolate, rest, and feel at home during one of the most challenging times in history.

These workers are deeply committed to their jobs and their communities – they deserve better than this mistreatment.

It’s time to stand up for fairness. Send a fax to the hotel, urging the owners and management to end the lockout and treat their employees with the respect they deserve.
