Edmonton – July 23, 2024 – The latest BDM Scholarship recipient aspires to become a conservation biologist.
Maheen Javed-Nasir is in her first year at the University of Alberta, studying Human Dimensions of Environmental Management; her parent is a Local 401 member at the Real Canadian Superstore.
“This scholarship will greatly alleviate some of the stresses that go along with university,” says Javed-Nasir. “I hope to eventually aid in the betterment of our planet by helping to conserve the habitats of Alberta’s wildlife and work towards understanding the intricacies of the environmental issues that affect various ecosystems across the globe by becoming a conservation biologist.”
The UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship offers a total of $18,000 in scholarships to UFCW Canada members and their families and is one of more than 25 union scholarships available to members and their relatives every year, totaling more than $300,000 in support.
