Safeway wage increases effective January 1

On January 1, UFCW 247 members working at Safeway were to begin receiving their first wage increase since March of 2018

Members who were frozen at minimum wage or behind on the wage scale will have their pay adjusted to the next step on the wage scale, and then will progress up that wage scale every 520 hours.

On June 1, these members will again receive the minimum wage increase to $15.20 per hour.

The wage increases in 2021 and 2022 stem from arbitrator Mr. John Hall’s Final Offer Selection (FOS) decision of July 3, 2020. as follows:

All active Grid B employees at twenty dollars ($20.00) or greater at time of payment shall receive the following off-scale increases: 

  • January 1, 2021 ……………………………………$0.35 per hour 
  • January 1, 2022 ……………………………………$0.40 per hour

All active Grid B employees earning less than twenty dollars ($20.00) shall be placed at the next highest wage rate on the wage scale. 

All active Grid A employees at top rate of pay at time of payment shall receive the following off-scale increases: 

  • January 1, 2021 ……………………………………$0.35 per hour
  • January 1, 2022 ……………………………………$0.40 per hour
