Everyone is so busy these days. Whether it’s work, school, life, or everything in between, things can feel chaotic. It’s easy to forget about the benefits of stopping to connect and get to know each other.
Members may have noticed Union representatives holding open-house-style events at stores and worksites across BC.
These casual events in UFCW Local 247 workplaces are intended to build connections. Members learn about their union, their workplace rights, and the advantages of being a union member.
The events are often attended UFCW Local 247 President, Dan Goodman, Secretary-Treasurer, Cathy Shannon, or another member of the union’s leadership.
“I think our event went really well,” said Sandra Nordstrom, a Shop Steward at Superstore 1522 in Kamloops after the open house she helped organize on Thursday this week. “At the beginning, it was a little slow, but [Union Representative] Dave and I walked the store a few times, and lots of people started coming in. We were quite pleased.”
While these events are promoted through bulletin board posters, leaflets, and emails, nothing is more impactful than one-on-one conversations.
Members who attend will find information about:
“The work of our UFCW Local 247 Union Representatives is fast-paced, complex, and often involves issues coming from many directions all at once,” said President Dan Goodman. “While there’s no getting away from that, it’s still important to stop, take the time to build connections with people, and let members know that we’re here. That’s what this is all about.”
Keep an eye out for the next one in your workplace!
