Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the deadline to apply for the 2020 UFCW Charity Foundation Scholarship, worth up to $8,000, has been extended to July to give applicants more time to complete their applications.
As part of the extension, the online application for the scholarship (Part A) is due by July 10, 2020. To allow more time to gather needed documents, transcripts with the attached Part B of the scholarship application must be post-marked by July 24, 2020.
Every year, the UFCW Charity Foundation awards several scholarships of up to $8,000 each to UFCW members or their unmarried dependents to cover post-secondary tuition fees over a period of four years. And each year, one scholarship is awarded to a UFCW Canada member.
Last year’s Canadian winner was Natasha Hayes, a proud UFCW Local 1518 member and university student from British Columbia.
The scholarships are available to any UFCW member who has been active since January 1, 2019. The children or dependents of active members are also eligible to apply if they are unmarried and under the age of 20 on May 31, 2020. Winners will be selected based on scholastic achievements, community involvement, and an essay that shows an understanding of the principles of the labour movement.
The new deadline to apply for this year’s UFCW Charity Foundation Scholarship is July 10, 2020.
