UFCW Local 247 Scholarships & Education Grants-deadline Monday Sept. 30!

UFCW Local 247 is committed to awarding up to TEN (10) $1,500 scholarships each year to qualified member or their eligible dependants for full-time  enrollment (as defined by the educational institution).  It is also committed to awarding up to EIGHT (8) $750 Education assistance grants for part-time continuing studies or academic upgrading of a part-time nature for those beginning or continuing their education.  There is no age limit for these applications.

Any active member of Local 247, who has been continuously active for the last six (6) months in the current academic year can apply for these programs. Dependants* can also apply for the scholarships.  (Membership will be verified once the application is received). 

The applications are available below for download .  You can email us at scholarships@ufcw247.com to request a copy or call us to have one sent to you via Canada Post.

Completed applications (along with supporting documentation) should be forwarded to the UFCW Local 247 Surrey Office no later than 5 pm of the last business day in September.  Please note that all applications must be submitted in an accurate and complete manner.  No submissions will be reviewed until after the closing date of September 30, 2019.  The successful applicants of the scholarships and educational grants will be announced close to the end of October 2019.

To apply for the Scholarship Program, you need, proof of actual registration in at least nine (9) credits (3 courses) of post-secondary education in a degree or diploma course program at a recognized university or community college in Canada.  Letters of admission or tuition invoices will not be accepted.  Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited institute as a full-time student in the same calendar year that the scholarship is awarded.

To apply for the Education Grant, you need, proof of actual registration in at least one (1) course at an accredited degree or diploma course program at a recognized university or community college in Canada.  Letters of admission or tuition invoices will not be accepted.  Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited institute as a part-time student in the same calendar year that the scholarship is awarded.  Members who are registered for more than 8 credits do not qualify for this Education Grant.

*Dependants: is defined as a person who is your natural or adopted child, stepchild, foster child or child of a common-law spouse who is dependent on you for support. If the person is over 21 years of age, they must be in full-time attendance at an accredited institute or enrolling in that institute during the current application period. 

Notification: All applicants will be subject to review by the scholarship committee.  Applicants will be notified of the results of the application by no later than the end of October.
