Labour Day 2024: Relentless, Determined, Resilient
Toronto – August 28, 2024 – Labour Day 2024 marks an opportunity to celebrate the monumental and historic strides we’ve made as union activists while reflecting on the struggles that lie ahead. From taking on corporate greed to organizing the very first agricultural units we’ve proven that being relentless and determined makes us resilient.

The fight for decent wages, good jobs and economic security requires a spirit of relentless struggle and deep conviction to overcome the barriers erected by corporate greed. This spirit of determination and relentless struggle is what kept our members united on picket lines across the country as they fought and won against some of the largest multinational corporations in the world.

Relentless determination in the spirit of resilience is what fortified the strength of hundreds of migrant workers who despite the odds blazed a trail in the agricultural industry as the first unionize.

The battles ahead will continue to test our fortitude and resilience as union activists like ensuring that the frontline workers who secure the health and wellbeing of Canadians from coast to coast to coast are respected.

UFCW Canada members continue to be a driving force on the frontlines providing the daily essentials that make life good for all Canadians. This labour day let us acknowledge these efforts by paying homage and showing respect to all frontline workers for their dedication and unwavering service.

Indeed, there is no better way to thank frontline workers than supporting their activism on campaigns that are critical to improving their working conditions like access to paid sick days. This labour day ensure to send a message to public officials that paid sick days matter and demand they enact the necessary changes now.

Corporate greed continues to be the challenge of our time and no where is this more evident than in Saskatchewan where UFCW 1400 members continue to be locked-out by their employer who wants to gut their union contract. Support these workers in their fight against corporate greed by sending a message to their CEO to End the Heritage Inn Lockout Now.

This labour day let us not forget the strength we possess as union activists as what may seem inconceivable is yet another opportunity to exercise our strength and relentless determination to overcome the most difficult challenges of our times.
