Toronto – January 8, 2025 – This past holiday season, UFCW local unions united across the country to make a lasting difference in their communities, providing vital support to food banks and humanitarian organizations in partnership with UFCW Canada. Their generous contributions underscored the unwavering commitment of UFCW members to give back and strengthen the fabric of their neighbourhoods.
UFCW 1518’s Kim Novak Legacy Fund made a significant debut, donating a total of $15,000 to three B.C. food banks: Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB), Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB), and Campbell River Food Bank (CRFB). This fund, launched earlier this year in honour of the late Kim Novak, former president of UFCW 1518, who was celebrated for her deep compassion and tireless dedication to humanitarian causes, is already making a significant impact.
UFCW Local 247 gave back with a generous $10,000 donation to the Sources Food Bank, empowering the organization to continue its essential work in the South Surrey/White Rock region of B.C.
In Ontario, UFCW Locals 175 & 633 led a remarkable effort, contributing a combined $180,000 to 60 food banks and organizations in the local communities where UFCW members live and work. These donations provide critical support to families and individuals facing hardships across the province.
A heartfelt thank you to all our local unions and members for their ongoing dedication, generosity, and support in helping their communities thrive!
