We are now accepting applications for the 2024 Iorio Scholarships & Eddy Education Grants!UFCW Local 247 is committed to awarding up to ten $1,500 Iorio Scholarships to members or eligible dependants who are currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary education. In addition, up to eight $750 Eddy Education Grants for part-time post-secondary studies will also be awarded to members (no dependants) who are beginning or continuing their education.Many members won in 2023 and you could be next…but you can't win if you don't apply!Eligibility details and application forms are available on our website: https://www.ufcw247.com/education/scholarships-grants/The application deadline is September 30. This Canada Day, let's celebrate and enjoy time with family and friends while acknowledging the full history of our nation. While we honor the diverse culture, natural beauty, and achievements of Canada, we must also reflect on the ongoing journey toward reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.As we've shared in previous years, this Canadian Native Flag was designed by the late Kwakwaka’wakw artist, Curtis Wilson. "A killer whale is within the maple leaf and the red bands are each with a salmon design. Throughout my life, I have come to learn all the hardships and struggles that First Nations people have faced in this country. This past weekend, we were thrilled to be part of the Surrey Pride Festival, celebrating diversity and inclusion!We had an amazing time connecting with the community, enjoying great music, and supporting the message of PRIDE. A special ‘Thank You’ to union members Fen W. and Ashley B. from the White Rock Safeway for volunteering at our booth and handing out pronoun pins.At UFCW Local 247, we believe in the power of unity and the importance of standing together to promote equality and acceptance for all.
