Montreal – May 15, 2023 – The Team Unite slate led by long time UFCW Canada activist Bea Bruske was recently re-elected at the 30th convention of the Canadian Labour Congress.
Acclaimed to the position, Sister Bruske will serve another term as CLC President. Secretary-Treasurer Lily Chang, also acclaimed, will continue her role a new three-year term. Larry Rousseau and Siobhan Vipond were also acclaimed to their positions as CLC Executive Vice-Presidents.
This is the first time in the history of the Canadian Labour Congress where all four leadership positions were re-elected by acclamation, reinforcing the confidence that Canada’s unions have in President Bea Bruske and Team Unite.
During the course of the five-day convention, delegates discussed the urgent need to ban scab labour and strengthen labour laws, protect public health care, and tackle the climate crisis. The convention passed resolutions combatting homophobia and transphobia, in support of reconciliation with First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and to tackle systemic racism.
The Canadian Labour Congress is the largest labour organization in Canada, bringing together dozens of national and international unions to help represent more than 3 million workers across the country. The next convention is scheduled to be held in 2026.
