Pandemic Pay Petition

In the past few weeks we have seen virtually all of the major employers we deal with ending the pandemic premium paid to members working on the front lines in processing and retail food stores, helping keep the people of BC and Canada fed, during the COVID-19 crisis. When the Employers first introduced the premium, they were clear that it was a temporary measure but that certainly does not eliminate the frustration of seeing it taken away.

We are still in the middle of a pandemic. The fear and anxiety of working in these uncertain times is still there. The focus of this Union has been to work with our Employers to help protect and maintain Canada’s food supply throughout the coronavirus pandemic but with a focus on our members safety. If the Employers do not think you are Hero’s anymore, WE CERTAINLY DO!! Across Canada, UFCW local Unions and our National Office have been lobbying employers to recognize our members that continue to go above and beyond.

UFCW members and the services they provide are vital to Canada’s food industry and to Canadian families. In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, workplaces have changed and so too have the responsibilities and risk taken on by workers across the country. As a Union we are more than disappointed in the decision by many employers to end the pandemic premium paid to employees. We call on employers to continue to recognize the crucial contribution that frontline workers are making and reinstate the pandemic premium immediately.
